『small mess』는 그래픽 오피스가 2026년 3월 제작한 『P.S. 1』의 리소 인쇄 과정에서 시작되었다. 『small mess』는 인쇄판의 좁은 틈에 작은 엉망을 만들어본다는 뜻에서 지은 이름으로, 인쇄 과정에서 발생하는 물리적 제약을 활용해 출판물의 연속성을 만들고자 한 시리즈다. 인쇄판의 남은 공간에 단색 면을 인쇄하고 이를 다양한 방식으로 변형, 스캔해서 만든 그래픽을 모은 내지와 스몰 메스를 만드는 방법에 대한 삽지로 구성된 책이다. 내지와 삽지를 서로 다른 판형과 잉크로 인쇄하였으며, 페더럴 블루(Federal Blue), 콘플라워(Cornflower), 메탈릭 골드(Metallic Gold), 라벤더(Lavender) 잉크를 사용했다.
small mess began during the risograph printing of P.S. 1, produced by Graphic Office in March 2026. The name refers to the idea of creating a small mess within the narrow gaps of a printing plate. The series explores how the physical constraints of the printing process can be used to create continuity across publications. The book consists of inner pages that bring together graphics made by printing solid fields of color in the unused areas of printing plates, then altering and scanning them in various ways, along with an insert explaining how to make a “small mess.” The inner pages and insert were printed in different formats and inks, using Federal Blue, Cornflower, Metallic Gold, and Lavender.
