1963년생 이영희는 1990년대 초반, 대구에서 편집 디자인 회사 ‘그래콤’을 설립한 후 30여 년간 사보와 사사를 중심으로 한 상업 출판 활동을 전개했다. 이 프로젝트는 이영희를 필두로 지역에서 활동한 디자이너와 편집자의 구술과 아카이브로, 한국 디자인의 과거를 바라보는 대안적 방법론을 탐구한다. 이는 한국 디자인사의 기록되지 않은 가장 보편적인 얼굴과 서사를 찾아나가는 여정이다.
How Has Korean Design History Been Written, and Through Whose Perspective? Korean design history often excludes the stories of the many anonymous contributors who have quietly worked within collaborative design environments. Can Lee Young Hee Speak? challenges the polished narrative of Korean design history, which is often centered on heroic individuals and monumental works. Instead, it aims to fill the gaps in this universal history by bringing in the voices of regional, on-the-ground, and women perspectives.
Born in 1963, Lee Young Hee established the graphic design company Gracom in Daegu, South Korea in the early 1990s. Over the past 30 years, she has been engaged in commercial publishing, primarily focusing on newsletters and corporate history books. This book is based on the oral histories and archives of designers and editors who worked in regional contexts, with Lee Young Hee at the forefront. It explores alternative methodologies for viewing the past of Korean design field. This journey seeks to uncover the most universal yet undocumented faces and narratives in the history of Korean design.
