두 도시가 땅을 부대낀다. 땅 밑으로 역사가 피와 같이 흐른다. 나는 서울을 내 몸처럼 바라봤고, 이미지로 그 몸을 가졌다. 도시의 몸으로 베를린을 만났다. 그 도시의 식민은 증오를, 분단은 공감을 불러일으켰다. 애증 어린 집착은 두 도시 간 시각적 교배로 이어졌다. 종이, 가죽, 금속에 사진, 영상, 활자로 그 과정을 찍어냈다. 두 도시의 혼종은 살이 돋아 그래픽이 흐르는 땅으로 솟아난다. 두 도시를 가르던 벽이 땅 위로 맞물려 책이 된다. 실체없는 책의 역사에 증오없는 공감만 남았다. 마침내 책은 나를 대신해 수치로부터 해방되고, 출판으로 국경과 바다를 건너 번식한다.
Two cities press against the land. Beneath the ground, history flows like blood. I looked at Seoul as if it were my own body and took its form through images. With the body of a city, I encountered Berlin. Its colonial past evoked hatred, while its division stirred empathy. This love-hate obsession led to a visual crossbreeding between the two cities. The process was captured through photographs, videos, and typography on paper, leather, and metal. The hybrid of these two cities sprouts flesh, rising as land where graphics flow. The wall that once divided them interlocks above ground, forming a book. In the history of this intangible book, only empathy remains, free from hatred. At last, the book liberates me from shame in my place and, through publishing, crosses borders and seas to propagate.
