『사리』는 불교 수행을 통한 ‘무아(無我)’의 경지에 대해 만물의 순환 이미지로 담아낸 그래픽북이다. 물성에 대한 판단의 틀을 내려놓고, 명상의 방식으로 존재의 본질에 다가선다. 작은 구슬 형태의 ‘사리(舍利)’는 현생을 마친 수행의 흔적이며, 비어 있음으로써 고정되지 않는 ‘공(空)’의 그릇이자 현신이다. 앞표지 속 책 외부를 비추는 구슬에서 시작해 처음에서 끝으로, 끝에서 처음으로 되돌아가는 순환적 구조를 취한다. 책의 완결처럼 보이는 뒷표지에서 책의 방향을 돌려 다시 읽어나가는 구성은 만다라의 형태를 빌려 결말을 초월한 끝없는 생멸의 고리를 보여준다. 인생의 수행에 자유로운 관점을 가져볼 수 있도록 꽃스님의 수행담 인터뷰를 함께 수록하였다.
SARI is a graphic book that explores the Buddhist pursuit of muga (無我, “non-self”) through imagery of the endless cycle of all things. Letting go of judgment toward material existence, it approaches the essence of being through meditation. A small, bead-like sarira (舍利) embodies the trace of practice—an empty vessel of śūnyatā (空, “emptiness”), unbound yet ever-present. Beginning from the reflective bead on the cover, the book forms a mandala-like cycle: from beginning to end, then back again, revealing the infinite loop of arising and ceasing. An interview with Venerable Kkotsnim offers a personal reflection on the path of practice and life itself.
