『The Magazine』은 이하린의 첫 단행본 작품집으로, 90인의 인물 사진과 90점의 디지털 회화를 1:1로 페어링한 사진-회화 프로젝트다. 회화 시리즈 〈Borderless〉의 연장선에서 시작된 이 작업은, 한 사람의 일상복이 만드는 색과 형이 어떻게 회화 어휘로 옮겨지는가를 기록한다. 책의 좌면은 참여자가 일상에서 입는 옷을 입고 선 정면 전신 사진이며, 우면은 그 의상에서 추출한 한 점의 회화다. 의상·헤어·메이크업의 모든 결정은 참여자 본인이 선택했다. 이 책은 화보가 아닌, 90명의 동시대인이 무엇을 선택하고 있는가, 그리고 그 선택이 어떻게 하나의 회화 어휘가 되는가에 대한 두 층위의 비교 기록이다.
The Magazine is Haleen Lee’s first monograph, a photography–painting project that pairs portraits of 90 individuals with 90 digital paintings. Developed as an extension of his painting series Borderless, the project documents how the colors and forms found in a person’s everyday clothing can be translated into a visual language of painting. On the left page of the book, each participant is photographed from the front wearing their own everyday clothes, while the right page presents a painting derived from the colors and forms of their outfit. Every choice—from clothing to hair and makeup—was made by the participants themselves. Rather than a fashion editorial, The Magazine is a comparative record that explores what 90 individuals of today choose to wear, and how those personal choices transform into a language of painting.
