『오래된 방은 궁전』은 동명의 전시인 《오래된 방은 궁전》의 현장을 기록한 도록이다. 작가 재훈이 별도의 촬영자 없이 자신을 기록해 온 사진 작업을 한데 모았다. ‘다른 사람을 온전히 믿지 못한다’라는 작가의 개인적인 특질을 바탕으로, 타인이 아닌 오직 자기 몸만을 피사체로 삼아 넓고 넓은 성별 정체성의 지형 속 자신의 위치를 쫓는다. 저렴하고 규격화된 원룸 오피스텔이라는 생활 공간을 배경으로, 포르노그래피로 위시되는 관음적 시선과 난감함에 대한 비판적 사유를 시각화한 것이 특징이다.
The Old Room is a Palace is a catalogue documenting the exhibition of the same name. It presents Jaehun’s photographic works, created without anyone else behind the camera. The artist’s difficulty in fully trusting others lies at the heart of the project. Using only their own body as a subject, Jaehun traces their place within the broad spectrum of gender identity. Set in the inexpensive, standardized one-room studio apartment that serves as the artist’s living space, the photographs critically explore the ways bodies are viewed in pornography and the discomfort that comes with being watched.
