‘교통약자 배려석’과 ‘Priority Seat’은 같은 기능을 하지만 전혀 다른 의미를 전달한다. 전자는 배려받는 대상의 모습을 한정 짓지만, 후자는 배려의 행위 자체를 강조한다. ‘휠체어를 탄 사람의 모습’과 같은 픽토그램 또한 배려받는 이들의 이미지를 부각해 자격을 묻는 듯하다. 언제부터 배려 앞에 조건을 붙였을까? 한 사람이 다른 한 사람을 돕는 게 당연할 수는 없을까? 『배려’하다’』는 배려받는 대상을 가리고, 배려의 행위 자체에 집중한 픽토그램을 통해 ‘배려하는 나의 행위’를 재정의하고 그 본질을 되돌아본다.
The term ‘priority seats’ conveys different meanings when it is written in korean and in english. The former defines what the person being considered looks like, while the latter emphasizes the act of consideration itself. Pictograms such as ‘person in a wheelchair’ also emphasize the image of the recipient and seem to ask for qualifications. When did we start attaching conditions to caring? Can‘t one person just simply help another? Care in Action redefines the ‘self-act of caring’ through pictograms that depict the behavior of caring and focus on the essence of care.
