경영학을 전공한 그래픽 디자이너. 글로벌 기업과 소규모 스튜디오를 오가며 일하는 디자이너. 동양과 서양의 차이를 몸으로 체득하며 자라난 디자이너. 디자이너 이민희(Min Hee Lee)의 남다른 삶의 궤적은 디자인에 대한 그의 태도에 어떻게 반영되고 있을까요? 이민희는 아이비리그 가운데 하나인 펜실베니아대학 와튼스쿨에서 경영학을 전공하고, 예일대학교에서 그래픽 디자인을 전공한 한국계 미국인입니다. 뉴욕을 기반으로 Arper, Bloomingdale’s, MIT Press, 유니클로, 예일 건축대학 등과 협업을 이어오고 있으며, 현재 로드아일랜드 디자인학교에서 타이포그래피를 가르치며 스튜디오 MINHEELEE의 아트 디렉터로 활동하고 있습니다. 2024년 8월, CC 세미나에서는 디자이너 이민희의 삶에 관한 이야기와, 그가 경험한 뉴욕 디자인 현장의 이야기를 들어보았습니다.
A graphic designer with a background in business. A designer whose career has spanned both global corporations and independent studios. A designer shaped by firsthand experiences of both Eastern and Western cultures. How have these experiences influenced Min Hee Lee’s approach to design? Min Hee Lee is a Korean American designer who studied business at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and graphic design at Yale University. Based in New York, she has collaborated with clients including Arper, Bloomingdale’s, MIT Press, UNIQLO, and the Yale School of Architecture. She currently teaches typography at RISD and serves as Art Director of Studio MINHEELEE. In August 2024, at the CC Seminar, we heard about Min Hee Lee’s life and career, as well as her perspective on New York’s design scene.

이민희(Min Hee Lee)는 뉴욕 출신의 그래픽 디자이너이자 아트디렉터입니다. 스튜디오 MINHEELEE를 운영하며 작가, 포토그래퍼, 일러스트레이터, 예술가와의 협업을 통해 오리지널리티를 갖춘 이야기를 생산하는 디자인 작업을 이어오고 있습니다. 광고 대행사 Ogivy & Mather에서 전략 기획자로 첫 경력을 시작했고, 뉴욕의 Common Name, Wax Stuidios, UNIQLO Global Lab에서 일했습니다. 예일대학교에서 그래픽 디자인(MFA)을, 펜실베니아대학교 와튼스쿨에서 경제학(BSE)을 공부했습니다. 현재는 로드아일랜드 디자인학교에서 타이포그래피를 가르치며, 콜롬비아대학교 건축대학원과 펜실베니아대학교에서 강의한 바 있습니다.
Introduction
Min Hee Lee is a New York–based graphic designer and art director. Through Studio MINHEELEE, she develops original narratives in collaboration with writers, photographers, illustrators, and artists. She began her career as a strategic planner at the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, and later worked at Common Name, WAX Studios, and UNIQLO Global Lab in New York. She received an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University and a BSE in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She currently teaches typography at the Rhode Island School of Design and has also taught at Columbia GSAPP and the University of Pennsylvania.
