우리는 감각을 통해 세상을 인지한다. 그런데 감각이 현실을 있는 그대로 반영한다고 확신할 수 있을까? 나아가 감각이란 정말로 실재하는 것일까? 나준흠 작가의 개인전 《Sense Illusion》은 감각이란 뇌가 만들어낸 허상에 불과할지도 모른다는 그의 생각을 시각적으로 풀어낸 전시다. 감각이 형성되기 이전의 원초적 상태를 담은 58점의 드로잉과 이를 엮은 책 『허상 감각』을 통해, 관람자로 하여금 감각의 실체에 대한 의심을 시작하게 한다.
We perceive the world through our senses. But can we be certain that our senses reflect reality as it truly is? Furthermore, do senses themselves truly exist? Artist Junheum Na’s solo exhibition Sense Illusion visually explores his idea that our senses may be nothing more than illusions created by the brain. Through 58 drawings that capture a primordial state before the formation of sensory perception, along with the accompanying book Sense Illusion, the exhibition invites viewers to begin questioning the very nature of the senses.

감각 기관을 통해 수집된 정보는 뇌 속에서 일련의 가공 과정을 거쳐 우리에게 전달된다. 이는 불온하게 복제된 경험이자 재해석된 연극과도 같다. 우리가 당연하게 받아들이는 일상의 감각은 허상일지도 모른다. 『허상 감각』은 58점의 드로잉 시퀀스를 통해 감각 정보가 각색되기 이전의 모습을 담아낸 책이다. 감각이 뇌를 통해 받아들여지기 이전의 잔영을 원초의 모습으로 복원하려는 시도이기도 하다.
Artist Note
Information collected through our sensory organs undergoes a series of processes within the brain before reaching our consciousness. What we experience is not reality itself, but a reconstructed version of it—a distorted copy, a reinterpretation of what once existed. The sensations we accept as part of everyday life may, in fact, be illusions. Sense Illusion is a book composed of a sequence of 58 drawings that imagines sensory information before it is processed and transformed by the brain. It is an attempt to restore the traces of perception that exist before interpretation, returning them to their most primal state.
